Simply Collect go Running: – A Team effort to collect and raise money
Here at Simply Collect we are always keen to support and help local charities and national causes. Plus if we can get ourselves moving and exercising that’s even better.
Our local British legion branch was holding a 5km race around a local park for all ages and abilities. This was a unique opportunity to get the team fit and healthy but also raise money for a great cause.
As I tend to ride into work when I can I obviously thought Ok I shall walk this (well run it) but you’d be surprised on a few training sessions where my legs were in agony as this type of exercise uses different muscle groups.
So our team arrived on what must be the freshest Sunday morning in a long time ready to hit the grass running. After a quick stretch and warm up, a group of 300+ runners gathered for a 2 minutes silence to remember the fallen and forces home & abroad. We decided we would go in the second wave with joggers as oppose to the professional runners and then the final countdown begun and were off!! It was a quite a hilly course with wide open spaces so the cross wind was doing us no favours, but we pushed on to the 2.5/3km mark where we had a couple of wobbles about pushing on. Being a team we motivated each other to keep going.
The finish was in site and the crowd were whooping and clapping until we made that final step across the line. We done it!! Lots of high 5’s and cuddles (it was cold) but what an amazing feeling and team effort.
I couldn’t recommend enough that businesses engage in local events like this, we all feel great for doing it and perhaps a little bit fitter. What shall we do next, more running hmmmm.
The funds raised go to help our armed forces past and present and as we all know the biggest part of their fund raising is done on remembrance day, where in the run upto this event they distribute their iconic paper poppies to raise funds for the forces community. Please remember if you can to support Remembrance Day.
